iCore - Austin TX - instruMENTAL mayhem
[icore] : a pristine, obese sound with syncipated rhythmic structure and embellished chord melodies. The entity of ICORE consists of intruiging technicality, mood altering ambience and driving grooves. ICORE stands for a constant evolving musical soul which adapts new ideas and techniques in order to break down the traditional barriers of music. This concept challenges the band, each and as a whole, to view the world through an open spirit in order to grow and unify the consciousness of our society. The band took a long time to actually develop. Adam and Nate knew eachother from a band they were in together in high school. Steven began to take interest and kind of steered Adam and Nate into another direction. OOPS, but we forgot a drummer and vocalist. Well, for about a year Adam and Steven wrote guitar riffs struggling with keeping Nate in the "lousy excuse for a band" . After that, we stumbled onto a couple of drummers. Ok, now Nate came back.. and we figured out you just cant piece riffs together to make a song. Otherwise, you lose interest into your very FEW listeners. After growing up a little, we knew we needed a new drummer. Drummer gone and BYE BYE to Nate. However, we were introduced to Troy Rios by David Dickinson, who has helped the band in more ways then you could count !! Troy was a great drummer and friend. Adam and Steven jammed with Troy for about 7 months while Nate was doing his own thing with Eiderdown. We had quite a few bass players come in and play. Auditioning singers was a main focus now. Dave helped us, ads in the chronicle, but no one we were interested in. ALL GREAT PEOPLE THOUGH !! However, a little later , Dave stumbled onto Chris Martinez from San Angelo. Chris came and auditioned. We said, alright lets give it a go. Chris moves to Austin. And we are finally ready to start writing FULL songs. We for the first time in HISTORY , we had a full lineup. We played our first show as Fracture (Steven, Adam, Mike, Troy and Chris). We later changed the name to Trial by Fire and got a new bass player , a friend of Chris's named Brad. We played around Austin just getting established. Frustration came about, and Brad decides to leave the band on good terms. So, no bass player. Our good old friend Nate comes back. And we start up again. Start playing bigger shows. Usually at the Vibe and the Metro. Then began to headline, and little by little develop a little bit of what you would call a following. With headlining gigs we were able to make enough cash to help make a dent in the practice room rent. However, something always has to go wrong. Chris did not like the direction we were beginning to head. So, back to San Angelo he went. Well, we want to continue to play, so we went looking for singers. Met some cool cats and good musicians, but no one to fullfill the shoes of our frontman position. With the writing of new "NON COMMERCIAL" material, Troy leaves the band. Say BYE to a good drummer. Well, lucky for Steven, Adam and the "still hanging in there" Nate, we mysteriously met a coworker of Adams. Sir Derek "Lennon" Lopez. Endowed with more then musical ability, Derrick quickly became part of the soul of this mildly weathered band. Without a question he joins the band. Derek, or Lennon as you might know him, was the drummer for the just recently deceased band Everydayhate. Derrick brought much to the table. We now had a chance to adapt to him and Derrick adapt to us. With Derek in the band, we could experiment, and focus on writing differently and JUST GET TIGHT AS A BAND !! With all the new found hope, we decide to name this long waited band "ICORE". Steven stumbled upon this word at work on the computer. Just wanting to know what it meant, he figured it could be a cool band name. It is actually spelled ichor, meaning : The rarefied fluid said to run in the veins of the gods and a watery, acrid discharge from a wound or ulcer. It was something we all decided on. HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY !! We have been seriously jamming since I would guestimate; April of '02. The music totally changed. We brought alot more of the bands influences into the music. Which meant, technicality and counting and stuff. No, it meant trying to be different, sticking to our hearts and utilizing our talents. We want our music to be 110 % TRUE !! Our main concern is making this our profession. We are trying to find a singer, but we will pursue playing out again regardless of having any vox.
