Just before August Website Formed in early 2002, Just Before August have showcased their unique blend of jazz, R&B, and rock to build a loyal grassroots following in Southeastern Massachusetts. While broadly defined as a jam band, listeners of Just Before August may notice the band's influences ranging from Pink Floyd to Sade to Counting Crows. Some have described the sound as Dave Matthews meets The Roots. However you classify the sound, one thing is for certain--Just Before August is a high-energy, lively band whose catchy melodies and soulful rhythm will pleasantly surprise you. Just Before August is currently touring to promote their five-song studio effort, "Under The Lights", released in November 2003. Produced by Just before August, mixed by Barry Martin, and mastered by Toby Mountain, the recording is a direct response to an impromtu bootleg containing live concert and radio broadcast material that left their fans asking for more. "Under The Lights" expands on an earlier four-song demo (produced by Jack Gauthier, Dispatch) to capture the band's noteworthy musicianship and the introspective, thoughtful lyrics of lead singer Tom Teixeira. Supporting Tom Teixeira's distinctive voice is the cool jazz trumpet of El Cruz along with the classic rock flair of Jordohn Bileau on electric guitar. The band's distinctive sound is rounded out by the R&B/rock-inspired bass guitar of Josh Hanoud and Sean Lagasse on drums. While the band has taken the music to the road to increase their loyal fan base, their talents have not gone unnoticed. Just Before August have been featured on the front cover of TITAN Magazine (65,000 monthly distribution), had a track chosen for a benefit cd for the victims of The Station fire in Warwick, RI, and placed second in 95.5 WBRU's rock hunt competition 2003 where they played at the renowned Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence, RI. "Twilight Zone" is an original guitar rock song written and sung by Robert Van Arsdale reminiscent of his hard rocking, island summer night gigs; Van shows his versatility singing "Darlin", an original 50's ballad written by Nantucket's legendary band leader, Jimmy Duarte.
